How long do I wait for him to text me?

So this guy I like and I were talking after class and I was saying how I would practice basketball over summer and become better and such but he cut me off and said "yeah! We should play over summer," and he said he would text my best friend to text me (they are both officers of a club we are in, so they have eachother's numbers) or creepily get my number from the club's contacts list (I am in it). I told him I could just give it to him, so I did. I had a few textbooks in my hand to turn in, but got out my phone anyway to get his number, but he said he would just text me. The thing is, I already know for a fact that he already had my number (my best friend said he said he had it at an officer meeting when they were compiling the list of peoples' numbers). I'm wondering if he said he would just text me to see if I would try and get his number from a friend or Facebook or if he wants to have a reason to start a conversation or if he doesn't want me to text him? I know it's not that big of a deal to most people, but I wonder. This was 2 days ago, and it was his last day at our school before summer. So I'm not worried because I don't expect him to text me right away but yeah. Please answer!
